When & How Did I Find Out?
When: I was diagnosed with MRKH on September 24th, 2014 - The beginning of my Junior year of High School.
How I was diagnosed: During the end of 8th grade- May 2012, my mom had emergency surgery because she had a cyst that burst: which twisted her ovary & had to have it removed. During this time, she had asked her gynecologist- why i had never menstruated. He said that I was too young to tell since I was only 13 at the time. He told her to bring me back when I was around 15-16 years old. So that's what she did. Beginning of August 2014, she took me to him and they ran multiple Ultrasounds, MRI'S, Blood work tests & genetic tests. by September 24, 2014 I was sent to the University Of Michigan: Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital. They told me I had poly cystic ovaries and MRKH. It was a lot to take in. What Was I Thinking: When they said, I will never menstruate- in a way I was relieved. But then, it upset me because I cant be like my friends & complain about having a period. I can't have a conversation about it because I don't know what it's like. When they told me I could never carry my own child, I broke down into tears. It was so hard. I had so many questions... Why me? Why can't I have kids? Why can't they just give me medicine to make me normal? I had A LOT OF WHY'S... They told me I could use a surrogate or adopt- but it isn't the same at all... |
